The lamb Wellington and the soups are what people write home about, and the kitchen handles pork and steak with the same care. The room is comfortable and quiet enough to hear across the table, which matters when the wine list runs as long as this one does. Open from late morning through to late evening, seven days, including a breakfast that is well priced for what it is. Worth calling ahead: the room takes private events, and turning up unannounced on the wrong evening can mean being turned away.
